Welcome
At last I've made a start to this the Belfast Spartans website. I first thought of doing this when I read on the net that "not much was known about the Belfast (Labatt) Spartans". I thought what shame it was that all the effort made by so many players had not more of a mention on the web. It was as if the Spartans had fallen down a hole and been forgotten about. I'm probably not the best person to host this site but until I get in touch with some better people I'll give it a go.
The site will consist of player profiles and will include stories and anecdotes as well as results and stuff. I'm also tracking down as many pictures of the players as possible. I'm hoping that as I get in contact with more and more people that the whole project will take on a life of its own and generate more information. We'll also have a news page that can be updated to keep people informed of any progress.
The main reason I want to do this is to acknowledge the contribution the Spartans made in the early days of American Football in Ireland and to give the players a site where they can get in touch with people they may have lost contact with. I played a lot of different sports over the years, but few ever excited me to the level of American Football. The Spartans however where more than just a team on the pitch. Many of the players where good friends an drinking partners socially. The Spartans were legendry party animals, who celebrated the game, win loose or draw. The team included talented athletes, couch potatoes (mainly offensive linemen), and social misfits but the camaraderie was incredible and the crack was fantastic.
I would like to invite anyone who has any information on the Spartans to get in touch through my facebook page
and to send me as much information about players and the team as possible. I hope you enjoy the site as it develops.

I have placed a list of questions on the site just to give us a framework for the profiles. Simply email the answers to [email protected] and your profile will be listed.
